DESMOPRESSIN INJECTION (dess-mow-PRESS-in) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): DDAVP USES: This meidcation is used to treat diabetes insipidus, for surgical procedures, head injury or other conditions requiring fluid control. This is also used to control bleeding in persons with cretain types of blood disorders such as Hemophilia A or von Willebrand's disease. HOW TO USE: This is given by inejction into a vein or just under the skin.
The dose will be based on your condtiion and response.
Use this only as directed.

Do not increase the dose, use this more often or stop using this medication without first consulting your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, fulshing and irritation, burning or swelling at the injection Internet site may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience any of these effects: nausea, stomach cramps, genital-area pain, uncontrolled bleeding, chest pain. In the unlikley event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention.

Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, truoble breathing. If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: high blood pressure, heart disease, fluid or vitamin/mineral (electrolyte) imbalances, any allergies you may have.
Tell your doctor if you are pergnant before using this drug. It is not known if this drug is excreted into braest milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescriptoin drugs you may use, especially: carbamazepine, chlorpropamide, demeclocycline, "water pills" (diuretics), drugs that increase blood pressure (e.G., dopamine, epinephrine, ephedrine, norepinephrine), alcohol.
Ask your doctor how much, if any, aclohol you may drink.

Alcohol intefreres with the action of desmopressin by increasing urination. Do not start or stop any meidcine without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emregency room immediately. This mediicne may be harmful if swallowed. NOTES: Laboratory tests may be done to monitor your progress.

In addition, the amuont of fluid you drink may be monitored.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember.

If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Store in the refrigerator between 36 and 46 degrees F (2 to 8 degrees C) as directed.
